Isn’t all taco seasoning safe? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Many pre-packaged taco seasoning sold in the stores contains one of two things, either gluten or magnesium stearate. If you aren’t gluten sensitive then you just need to check labels for the magnesium stearate. This specific ingredient is NOT Alpha-Gal friendly and is made from animal products unless specifically noted that it is “vegetable magnesium stearate.”
So to prevent any issues and having to look up ingredients I just make my own taco seasoning from the common “safe” seasonings I already have at the house. Simple and common ingredients you probably already own: chili powder, cumin, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper and oregano. I buy a lot of these in bulk from Sam’s and just keep them in the pantry. *Always check ingredients in these items as well*
Making this in a large batch makes it easy enough to grab out of the cabinet and use on taco night for Street Tacos or when I’m making my friend, Carra’s Taco Soup! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I generally keep my batches in a mason jar but you can use any storage container as long as it is airtight. I’ve stored this for up to two months and it has been fine.
