Toilet Paper! The simplest thing.
It goes as far as toilet paper. Our family has always bought and appreciated Angel Soft and how thick and soft it is. A few years ago my husband accidentally bought the lavender scented version and it got placed in bathrooms around the house without anyone noticing that it was different. And of course, like all other allergy discoveries this became a trial and error situation. I had no idea I would react until I used it and had a reaction… TO TOILET PAPER!!! I immediately swelled up and had to take Benadryl. It was so uncomfortable and awful but very similar to the fabric softener reaction I had a few summers ago, which I’ll tell about later.
First of all who would have thought that there is mammal by products in toilet paper. Secondly, why had I not heard anything about it on my Facebook support groups?
I decided to post this piece about my reaction and experience with toilet paper because I read a conversation in my Facebook support group the other day stating that Angel Soft was starting to add mammalian products to all of their toilet paper, not just the scented packs.
This of course caused a bit of a scare because my house is full of Angel Soft toilet paper and as most people would…at some point today or tomorrow, I’m going to have to use the restroom. So I started researching.
******People on the support page were talking about how they’ve switched completely over to using a bidet 100% and avoiding toilet paper altogether. My question is, what do you do when you’re at work or out shopping or at a doctor’s appointment? These places don’t just provide bidets for us. So this seems a bit of a reach for me. ******
My Findings/Research Results
Angel Soft, whose parent company is Georgia-Pacific claimed in 2019 in a phone conversation with a customer that there are no purposely added mammalian ingredients and that their adhesives do not contain mammalian ingredients or by products. However, this conversation on my support group was this year, 2025, only a few days ago and someone had stated they had heard they are beginning to add mammalian products. So my conclusion for myself is this: I am currently not having issues with what I have in my house. When I buy the next package of Angel Soft toilet paper I will use it with caution and have Benadryl at the ready.
