I’ve been through some rough patches in my adult life, but this was right up there at the top of the list with the hardest things I’ve had to face. Narrowing down the things I couldn’t have, living on Benadryl, eating only foods prepared in my home, no prepackaged anything, no eating out, no medications because I didn’t know what was safe and cross contamination is a problem in restaurants and other people’s houses.
The theme for AGS should be “Trial & Error” because the truth is, that’s all it was all day…every day.
For those of you that are just being diagnosed and looking for answers I’m hoping this gives a little direction:
Ingredients to definitely stay away from and look for:
- Carrageenan
- Magnesium Stearate
- Gelatin (puddings, pies, medication capsules, gel tablets)
- Lanolin
- Mammal meat: beef, pork, venison, lamb, mahi-mahi (organ meats- liver, kidney, etc.)
- Lard
- Beef Tallow
- Dairy products: cheese, milk, sour cream, butter, yogurt
- Collagen
- Whey
- Goat milk or cheese
- Broth/Gravy/Stock
- Agar/Seaweed
What can I eat?
- Meat: turkey, chicken, salmon, tuna, shrimp, swordfish, scallops, (if you’re a hunter -quail, dove)
- Dairy free products: plant based butters (i.e. Country Crock), coconut or almond milk yogurts (i.e. So Delicious), plant based sour cream (i.e. Simple Truth), plant based cheeses (i.e. Daiya)
- Chicken broth – homemade or free of any of the above ingredients
- Vegetables: roasted, grilled, sautéed (use olive oil or plant based butters)
- Fruit
- Benadryl (Brand name) Children’s Liquid
- Unisom (same ingredient as Benadryl and safe)
I will update this page as I come across additional ingredients to stay away from. Please reach out if you have any questions or additions to things I post. I truly want this to be a place of safety and reliability.
